Use Safe Cleaning Products Exclusively

by Angie Meza

Wherever possible you should try and use safe cleaning products around your home. Look for solutions that are natural and non-toxic. You can often use items you already have purchased to use for other purposes, and which are laying around the house or garage. With a little bit of initiative, you will be surprised what you can come up with!

There are a wide variety of safe cleaning products out there, including lemon juice, olive oil, salt, baking soda, washing soda, citrus, vinegar, borax and cornstarch. These products are all effective and safe and have no synthetic chemicals. Many of these items are in your kitchen, whilst others may be found in the laundry or utility room.

Cleaning up can take a considerable amount of time out of your daily routine. You expend a lot of energy getting rid of lime deposits in the bathroom, scrubbing the oven, working the carpets, cleaning the furniture and the seemingly never ending array of problem areas. Do your bit for the environment by only using safe cleaning products. To save yourself a lot of time, install an absorbent mat in areas that are vulnerable to spills. These mats will collect any mess as it happens and save you from getting on your hands and knees.

The US Environmental Protection Agency says that fully half of indoor pollutants can be attributed to commercial household cleaners. These cleaners can give off noxious harmful gases. A number of commercial cleaners are very abrasive and can add to the problem rather than solve it. For example, whilst attempting to clean up an original spill in the garage the cleaner can do additional damage to the surface. To avoid this, place an absorbent mat and avoid having to deal with the spill at all. The mat can absorb up to a gallon of liquid at any time and can be easily cleaned.

There are many problems associated with the use of harsh chemicals typically found in commercial cleaners. They are very bad for the environment, as the residue can be flushed into our waste water systems during the cleaning process. This leads to pollution in our rivers and waterways. If we throw the package away, it ends up in a landfill as the plastic containers are not biodegradable. Make sure that you use safe cleaning products, exclusively.

You would be surprised how little money you need to spend to clean your house effectively. For example, consider the use of white vinegar, a natural antibacterial. This is one of the great safe cleaning products out there. As an example, if you find that you are short of laundry detergent, take a little bit of baking soda and mix with some white vinegar. Dilute this mixture and your problem is solved.

You will never need to buy a commercial cleaner again if you decide to use safe cleaning products exclusively within your home. Whilst you are at it, consider the installation of some absorbent mats in areas that are vulnerable to spills, so that stains do not develop and you will not have to clean up.

When you combine the use of natural, safe cleaning products with the introduction of absorbent mats, you will save a great deal of precious time cleaning. Not only that, but you will save a lot of money in the process as well as benefiting the environment.
