Home Office For The Creative Mind

by Craig Barkley

Home offices are one area which sometimes are boring. You either don't know what to place in this space or what type of art you should have going on. Usually someone who spends most of their time in a specific location such as the home office may be a writer or an artist. You want to then make this room useful along with creative so you have everything at your finger tips which you need along with creative ideas.

Writers are always sitting and thinking of new ideas. If you write specific books or articles which are based on fiction or even fantasy, try basing your home office theme around this. Fantasy rooms of course should have a castle and a few knights in shining armor. This is what fantasy is all about. If you are looking to invest in something with the design, try choosing a great mural to paint on the wall. If you are an artist this is a great idea for you to create.

Painters can always stand there and figure out what they want to paint next. Why not go wild in your room and just splatter some colorful paints on the wall in a crazy design or just with splatter paint brush marks? This will give your room the personal design which is should have if you spend much of your time here. Instead of a traditional desk you may want to invest in a drawling desk to keep all your materials and ideas in.

Area rugs don't always have to be placed on the floor. You can use them as tapestries to help cushion the sound vibrations in a room. Rugs now come in all colors, all shapes and all kinds of thicknesses and materials. Paisley looking rugs would be perfect for the historical romance writer, along with a big arm chair and a writing tray. For accents on the desk, maybe a feather pen and an ink well and of course a globe of the world for travels far, far away. You might even be able to set the mood even more with a roll top desk.

For the writer which has their mind racing every moment of the day with different and new ideas, a corkboard wall would be great. With all the papers and cards they may write their idea on, all they need to do is tack it to the wall for later. Another great idea is making sure the desk which you choose has enough drawer space and shelves available in case you aren't someone big on book shelves cluttering a rooms space.

If you are a painter on the other hand you may also want a cork board wall so you can tack your art onto the wall for display or even to dry. Another great idea is having as much natural light and views possible in the room so you have other artistic visions to draw on canvas.
